Wonderboys cup joys
continue with a comfortable win over FC Westminster; Shaun Robertson
grabbed the only goal of the game in the 56th minute.
The
Wonderboy's unbeaten record in competitive fixtures this season was
maintained, as they cruised to a 1-0 win over division 6 outfit FC
Westminster - the scoreline suggesting a more hard-fought victory than
the reality.
Billy
Whizz made no changes to the side that had beaten Glorious FC the
previous night, and were on top from the start, as leading scorer Shaun
Robertson headed just wide after 9 minutes. Tom Jones and Daniel Hall
also squandered chances to give the hosts the lead, before Smith was
forced into his first save of the evening, saving down low to his left
from Hall after he was well set up by Robertson.
The
Whizzers continued to press before half time, as Westminster struggled
to contain the attacking menace possessed by the home players. Robertson
again went close just 2 minutes before the interval, and despite being
held at the break, the players received a standing ovation by the
Wonderboys faithful, for an utterly dominant first half performance.
The
home fans were rewarded soon after the break, as the deadlock was
broken by Robertson. The ball was passed across the Westminster penalty
area, before Greenacre found Robertson, who took the ball past his man,
and fizzed a shot into the far corner of the goal.
Greenacre
himself nearly doubled the lead, but his shot was straight at Smith,
and after Gonzalez hit a ball over the top, Dean couldn't finish,
despite being clear through.
The
Wonderboys were noticably more defensive as the end of the game
approached, although Westminster rarely threatened, and it was in fact
the Whizzer's counter attacks that looked more dangerous.
The
final whistle went after minimal injury time, confirming the hosts
place in the first qualifying round, after their 3rd consecutive 1-0
victory in the Cup. In the next round, they will play Leeds Rhinos
United, who are top of 6.133 with 39 points from 18 games.
