Wonderboys 'must be better' in league matches says Whizz
Billy Whizz's Wonderboys dropped out of the National Cup in the first round last night, for the first time in the club's history, losing 2-1 to Thomas All Stars.
The Wonderboys scored with the first attack of note, as Mick Richards stole in to head home a Morten Fribo corner after just 6 minutes. Chances from Avery and Jones then went begging, as the visitors looked very comfortable, and were turning up the heat.
Keeper Jack Leese was called into action for the first time on 32 minutes, as he saved Mason's shot, but Thomas All Stars scored the equalizer just 2 minutes later. Mason neat Hawthorn on the wing, and Beckwith headed home his cross. Konz almost responded immediately, before a Benn corner was headed home by Mason, as the hosts found themselves winning a game they had been dominated in.
In the second half, the Whizzers seemed too happy to let the game slow down, which suited the All Stars, and never really threatened to level the game. A bad night was confirmed when it was confirmed Jones injured his leg, meaning he will be out for 2 weeks.
"It was a poor night for us" admitted Billy Whizz after the match. "We've got to build ourselves up, and try and make sure this doesn't affect our league performances this week. It's a crucial few days for the club, and while we haven't done as well as hoped in the cup, it's the league matches that matter, and we will be fully prepared for those"

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys today completed the transfer of Achilles Wielgas, a young Polish midfielder, for 2.1m.
The 19 year old attacking midfielder has played just 2 professional games, having spent 2 seasons playing in Romania. Wonderboys boss Whizz has spoken recently of his desire to change the image of the club, and bring in more young players with potential, with the long term aim of the club to create a reserve team, enabling the club's stars of the future to have regular match practice.

Whizz tells his team to be brave in hunt for crucial victory
Billy Whizz's Wonderboys manager Billy Whizz revealed today he was under no illusions about the size of the task his team face tonight, as they play Milky Milky at Shitters Palace.
The visitors sit in 3rd place in 5.10, 4 points ahead of the Whizzers, having beaten 2nd placed gunsablazing on Wednesday night.
"I thought they would be in and around the teams pushing, and they've had a great start for sure. They'll know they're in for a difficult game, but they'll also be thinking that they can beat us if they play well."
"In the position we're in, most teams would settle for a point against us, but may just fancy their chances. We're just not hitting our top form as often as we need to, and I think our league position reflects that. Some days we've been excellent, others we haven't done what has been required. The number of bad days has decreased from previous seasons however, but it's no longer to play 'ok', we need to be winning pretty much every game, thats the way it has to be for promoted sides"
"We're a few points off the automatic spots, but 2 wins puts us right back in there. We've been unlucky in terms of injuries, so we're going to have to hope that can change, and we can get our best team on the field. We'll have Luke Groves back tonight, that will be a big boost for us, and we have to make sure we're creating chances for him"

Avery, a regular starter for the first time in his career, has scored 5 goals so far this season. Defender Floyd Rooney will miss the game due to injury, but Whizz hinted he may return for Sunday's encounter against Derby County FC. Goalkeeper John Cartman has recovered from a hamstring injury, but is unlikely to dislodge new signing Preda from between the sticks. David Thorpe is also back to full fitness, and may start at left back in place of Sam Brooke.

Billy Whizz has admitted that his side's 6-0 defeat to the hands of Soccor of Napoli was the worst game he has ever experienced during his reign at Shitters Palace.
The visitors had keepers Jack Leese and John Cartman injured, meaning defender Alan Thorpe was made an emergency goalkeeper for the second half.
Speaking on the Team of the Season interview, the Wonderboys manager said:
"Having 2 keepers injured, and my DC have to come on in goal is a disaster. [It was] One of those days that couldn't have gone any worse, but they happen, and we just have to hope that that game doesn't cost us."
The Wonderboys sit in 7th position, but Whizz remains adamant that a promotion challenge is on the cards:
"We still are pushing hard, we are only 3 points behind. With everybody fit...I'm confident we can really push on for the 2nd half of the season."

Wonderboys deliver under the spotlight
Good performance keeps Whizzers in touch of promotion places
Billy Whizz's Wonderboys comfortably saw off the threat of Man Utd SER last night to move up to 3rd place in the 5.10 table, and keep the pressure on the top two.
With the Wonderboys also having been selected as Team of the Season, the result at Shitters Palace would have had plenty of attention - but Whizz's team did not let themselves down.
Phil Jones and Mick Richards were recalled to the team in place of the banned Floyd Rooney and the injured Luke Groves, and the latter responded to criticism this week by netting his first goal of the season, picking up a pass by Maurice Meredith.
The Wonderboys looked like a well drilled outfit, high on confidence, and it was no suprise when they doubled their lead, when Morten Fribo bent in a free kick from 25 yards out.
The Whizzers then took their foot off the gas, and saw the game out in comfortable fashion, with keeper Leese having little to do, as the return of bin Whizzer bolstered the hosts defence. Meredith, Avery and Richards all had chances to extend the lead, but the efficiency and organisation of the Wonderboys midfield and defence will have pleased Whizz, even if their lack of effort with attacking play may not have excited the purists.
"We were all feeling confident coming into this match, and I was pleased we were able to use this confidence to get a result" said Whizz.
"With Team of the Season watching our every move, we knew we had to be on our game, and that we were. It was a superb night for us, we turned up, did the business, and sent the fans home happy. As a manager, you can't ask for more than that"
With Milky Milky's shock defeat to SuperStarzz, the Wonderboys moved up into 3rd place, and are just 1 point behind Skills City, something Whizz says they must use to their advantage:
"We're on form, there's no doubt about that, and we need to be heaping the pressure on the teams in the top 2. We need to make the other teams know that if they slip up, they will be punished and move ahead of them - but to do that, we have to keep working hard, and never take any game for granted."
