Thrilling victory boosts Wonderboys

Wonderboys come from behind to claim 3 points, despite injuries

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys secured their 2nd win of the season, away to early leaders nottingham forest fc.

Going into the match without right back Floyd Rooney, and leading striker Luke Groves, the Whizzers weren't fancied by many, and when the form of the two sides were compared, the hosts looked to be the only winners.

After a tense opening half an hour, the hosts took the lead from a corner kick. Novacic headed home Stewarts outswinging delivery, and making the most of O'Reilly's air-kick. The Whizzers responded strongly, but seemed unable to get past forest's keeper Hari, largely due to wasteful shooting. It was possibly because of this, that when Inchingolo had the ball 30 yards out, rather than pass the ball to the onrunning Mick Richards, he decided to try on his own, and he couldn't have done it much better. The ball flew into the top corner, causing delirium in the stand occupied by the away fans. Just 60 seconds later, Morten Fribo teed up young striker Thomas Avery, who fired home from just outside the box. It was the youngsters first league goal of the season, and followed a goal on Thursday night in the friendly against Speedy Petes. Billy Whizz could hardly believe it, as his team had turned the match on its head, with 2 goals in two minutes.

In the second half, the Wonderboys managed to limit the host's chances, despite having an astonishing 3 injuries. First, on 48 minutes, Phil Jones had to replace Inchingolo, then 2 minutes later Maurice Meredith had to be replaced by James Cort, and then with just 15 minutes remaining youngster Chris Hewitt made his debut, as he came on for the injured Mick Richards. As the game entered stoppage times, Wonderboys' nerves meant Whizzer was called upon for the first time in the match, when he stopped a Stewart header with a fine save. A 93rd minute Forest corner was safely negotiated, and the final whistle one minute later confirmed the Whizzers' first away win of the season.
