Whizz on Season 25

Wonderboys manager Whizz writes exclusively for the BWW blog, as he reflects on the past 12 weeks.

Before the season started, we as a club were both nervous and excited about the football ahead. It would be totally different to the past season or two - we would be going into games as underdogs, and fighting relegation as supposed to promotion, as had been the case in Division 5.

The past few days therefore, have been massively gratifying. Many questioned whether we were ready for Division 4, but I think we proved that we most definitely were. We had some cracking results along the way as well, such as beating Dynamo Duran 3-1 on the opening game of the season, and beating 4th placed Brindle 3-2 away from home. We were also undefeated in our two games against Manchester Reds, who will be competing in Division 3 next season.

Players came in and contributed well. Our squad depth is nowhere near that of some teams, but everybody who had to come in and deputize did so very well. In football, it's not always about your best XI, but who's behind them.

Kohklov and Grove both led the line extremely well, while Leese in goal was a rock, again, and earned us many invaluable points. Contributions from midfield were plentiful as well, with Konz, Fribo, Robertson and Mollet all chipping in with goals and assists.

It therefore breaks a small part of my heart to put these players on the transfer list, however, we as a club must move forward, and the chairman and I believe we have found a way to do this. Indeed, after speaking with the manager of Kit Kat, who has successfully defended his Premiership title for the 2nd year, he said after hearing our strategy that 'the only way was most definitely up' for us. It may not be immediately so, however in 4 or 5 seasons time, we will be in a much better situation than we are now.

I wish all those players well, therefore, and I hope they go on and have the best of success with their new clubs. They have provided us with many good memories, and it is their efforts that have kept us in Division 4 this season, however the funds we receive from their sales will go a long way towards financing a better future for the club.

I hope you've enjoyed this season as much as I have, and I hope you will continue to follow us next season, when things will be undoubtedly tougher.
