Shock cup defeat leaves Whizzers reeling

Wonderboys 'must be better' in league matches says Whizz

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys dropped out of the National Cup in the first round last night, for the first time in the club's history, losing 2-1 to Thomas All Stars.

The Wonderboys scored with the first attack of note, as Mick Richards stole in to head home a Morten Fribo corner after just 6 minutes. Chances from Avery and Jones then went begging, as the visitors looked very comfortable, and were turning up the heat.

Keeper Jack Leese was called into action for the first time on 32 minutes, as he saved Mason's shot, but Thomas All Stars scored the equalizer just 2 minutes later. Mason neat Hawthorn on the wing, and Beckwith headed home his cross. Konz almost responded immediately, before a Benn corner was headed home by Mason, as the hosts found themselves winning a game they had been dominated in.

In the second half, the Whizzers seemed too happy to let the game slow down, which suited the All Stars, and never really threatened to level the game. A bad night was confirmed when it was confirmed Jones injured his leg, meaning he will be out for 2 weeks.

"It was a poor night for us" admitted Billy Whizz after the match. "We've got to build ourselves up, and try and make sure this doesn't affect our league performances this week. It's a crucial few days for the club, and while we haven't done as well as hoped in the cup, it's the league matches that matter, and we will be fully prepared for those"

Whizzers bring in promising youngster

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys today completed the transfer of Achilles Wielgas, a young Polish midfielder, for 2.1m.

The 19 year old attacking midfielder has played just 2 professional games, having spent 2 seasons playing in Romania. Wonderboys boss Whizz has spoken recently of his desire to change the image of the club, and bring in more young players with potential, with the long term aim of the club to create a reserve team, enabling the club's stars of the future to have regular match practice.

Wonderboys hunt for first win in four

Whizz tells his team to be brave in hunt for crucial victory

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys manager Billy Whizz revealed today he was under no illusions about the size of the task his team face tonight, as they play Milky Milky at Shitters Palace.

The visitors sit in 3rd place in 5.10, 4 points ahead of the Whizzers, having beaten 2nd placed gunsablazing on Wednesday night.

"I thought they would be in and around the teams pushing, and they've had a great start for sure. They'll know they're in for a difficult game, but they'll also be thinking that they can beat us if they play well."

"In the position we're in, most teams would settle for a point against us, but may just fancy their chances. We're just not hitting our top form as often as we need to, and I think our league position reflects that. Some days we've been excellent, others we haven't done what has been required. The number of bad days has decreased from previous seasons however, but it's no longer to play 'ok', we need to be winning pretty much every game, thats the way it has to be for promoted sides"

"We're a few points off the automatic spots, but 2 wins puts us right back in there. We've been unlucky in terms of injuries, so we're going to have to hope that can change, and we can get our best team on the field. We'll have Luke Groves back tonight, that will be a big boost for us, and we have to make sure we're creating chances for him"

With the return of the club's premier striker, Whizz will have to decide who out of Mick Richards and Thomas Avery will be his partner. Avery, a regular starter for the first time in his career, has scored 5 goals so far this season. Defender Floyd Rooney will miss the game due to injury, but Whizz hinted he may return for Sunday's encounter against Derby County FC. Goalkeeper John Cartman has recovered from a hamstring injury, but is unlikely to dislodge new signing Preda from between the sticks. David Thorpe is also back to full fitness, and may start at left back in place of Sam Brooke.

Whizz: Worst game ever

Boss admits game 'couldn't have gone worse'

Billy Whizz has admitted that his side's 6-0 defeat to the hands of Soccor of Napoli was the worst game he has ever experienced during his reign at Shitters Palace.

The visitors had keepers Jack Leese and John Cartman injured, meaning defender Alan Thorpe was made an emergency goalkeeper for the second half.

Speaking on the Team of the Season interview, the Wonderboys manager said:

"Having 2 keepers injured, and my DC have to come on in goal is a disaster. [It was] One of those days that couldn't have gone any worse, but they happen, and we just have to hope that that game doesn't cost us."

The Wonderboys sit in 7th position, but Whizz remains adamant that a promotion challenge is on the cards:

"We still are pushing hard, we are only 3 points behind. With everybody fit...I'm confident we can really push on for the 2nd half of the season."

Wonderboys deliver under the spotlight

Good performance keeps Whizzers in touch of promotion places

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys comfortably saw off the threat of Man Utd SER last night to move up to 3rd place in the 5.10 table, and keep the pressure on the top two.

With the Wonderboys also having been selected as Team of the Season, the result at Shitters Palace would have had plenty of attention - but Whizz's team did not let themselves down.

Phil Jones and Mick Richards were recalled to the team in place of the banned Floyd Rooney and the injured Luke Groves, and the latter responded to criticism this week by netting his first goal of the season, picking up a pass by Maurice Meredith.

The Wonderboys looked like a well drilled outfit, high on confidence, and it was no suprise when they doubled their lead, when Morten Fribo bent in a free kick from 25 yards out.

The Whizzers then took their foot off the gas, and saw the game out in comfortable fashion, with keeper Leese having little to do, as the return of bin Whizzer bolstered the hosts defence. Meredith, Avery and Richards all had chances to extend the lead, but the efficiency and organisation of the Wonderboys midfield and defence will have pleased Whizz, even if their lack of effort with attacking play may not have excited the purists.

"We were all feeling confident coming into this match, and I was pleased we were able to use this confidence to get a result" said Whizz.

"With Team of the Season watching our every move, we knew we had to be on our game, and that we were. It was a superb night for us, we turned up, did the business, and sent the fans home happy. As a manager, you can't ask for more than that"

With Milky Milky's shock defeat to SuperStarzz, the Wonderboys moved up into 3rd place, and are just 1 point behind Skills City, something  Whizz says they must use to their advantage:

"We're on form, there's no doubt about that, and we need to be heaping the pressure on the teams in the top 2. We need to make the other teams know that if they slip up, they will be punished and move ahead of them - but to do that, we have to keep working hard, and never take any game for granted."

Whizz: We're ready for anything

Whizz challenges his team to show promotion credentials

Billy Whizz prepared for his sides match against Man Utd SER tonight by saying his team were prepared for any challenge thrown at them in their quest to for promotion into Division 4.

Man Utd SER were pre season favourites for an immediate return to Division 4, but have recently slipped into 5th place, below the Whizzers. Injuries to key players have meant a difficult rotation period for SER, and Whizz hopes his side can further damage their opponents chances:

"It will be a real difficult game for sure, and people should remember that we're without a few top players as well. Luke Grove is our talisman, so somebody else is going to have to step up, but we're very confident"

"This week is a tough week for sure, playing 2 promotion rivals and then Soccor of Napoli, who have been a solid team in recent seasons, but it's an ideal chance to show that we are the team to beat. It's definitely time to step up, and I've been explaining that to the players. I think we're ready for anything this week is going to throw at us"

Every move that the club takes will be analysed on the Team of the Season forum, and Whizz is aware of the extra pressure that brings:

"We know everybody's going to be watching us, and talking about our set of results, so we want to make sure they're going to be talking about something positive. Of course, it's an extra incentive to do well, there's no doubt about that, but it means we have to work that bit harder.

Whizzers chosen as Team of the Season

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys have been confirmed as 'Team of the Season 24' on the English forums.

The Wonderboys follow teams such as Chunky's Champions, SurReal Madrid and init4themoney, and Billy Whizz was delighted with the verdict:

"I think it's a great achievement for the club, and we will be working with Norton FC and The Black Arabs to ensure it is one of, if not the, best Team of the Season's yet. We're very excited about how it may develop over the coming weeks"

Wonderboys hit esaf for 4

Wonderboys up to 4th after esaf thrashing

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys showed their promotion credientials after hitting lowly esaf for 4 last night in their 5.10 match. Young striker Thomas Avery continued his good form, scoring 2 goals, while captain Morten Fribo hit a brace also.

The Wonderboys scored the first chance of note after 8 minutes, as Maurice Meredith, on his return from injury, played the ball through for Avery to smash home. The stadium at esaf was eerily quiet, and the game seemed to follow suit, only a Fribo free kick livened up the atmosphere, after he fired home from 20 yards.

Konz, Fribo and Jones all had chances to further extend the Whizzers lead before half time, before Whizzer was forced into his only action of any purpose in the first half, when he dived superbly to his right to stop Nunn's header.

In their previous game, the Whizzer's were 3-0 up at half time, only to be hanging on nervously at the end of the game, and manager Billy Whizz would have been pleased to see his side come out all guns blazing in the second period, when good play by Meredith teed up Fribo, whose shot found the top corner from 30 yards.

Esaf then had a lot more possession, but failed to test Whizzer, with the visitor's defence standing firm, and indeed teh Wonderboys looked the more likely to score on the counter-attack, which they duly did with 15 minutes to go. Konz beat his man, and crossed a teasing delivery into the box, which the impressive Avery headed home. The youngster is now the Whizzer's top scorer in the league, and Whizz will have a tough decision to make when Luke Grove returns to full fitness, which he is likely to do by Sunday. Avery's partner in this mathc, Mick Richards, is goalless so far this campaign.

After a slow start, the Whizzer's seem now to be finding some real form, and 7 goals in their last 2 matches will have eased concerns about scoring problems. Their challenge now is to continue this form, first against Boca Juniors tomorrow, and then in key games to come against Man Utd SER and gunsablazing, who they play in the next fortnight. With the immenent return of Luke Grove and defender bin Whizzer, there is every reason for their fans to be optimistic.

Wonderboys extend unbeaten run

Whizzers move to 1 point from 2nd after 3-2 win at the Palace

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys weathered a second half storm to move up to 6th place in 5.10, and register their 3rd win of the season.

The Wonderboys were 3-0 up after just 33 minutes, but after O'Reilly received his 2nd booking in the 39th minute, had to hang on to beat Cornfield Rovers at Shitters Palace.

Before the match, manager Billy Whizz had called upon his team to be more clinical, and the return of Mick Richards up front was a welcome one, as he partnered promising youth Thomas Avery. Enver 'The Rock' Mandirah made his first appearance of the season, due to bin Whizzer's injury, while Matt Hill and Phil Jones continued in midfield.

Whizz's message appeared to have been well listened to, as the match was less than 2 minutes old when O'Reilly chipped through Avery, who finished expertly. The Wonderboys continued to push, and a brilliant passing move culminated in Morten Fribo shooting just wide from outside the box, however the game was very much stop start, with Jones, O'Reilly and Chickachev all booked before the game reached the 15 minute mark.

The Wonderboy's dominance paid off though, and after 20 minutes they had doubled their lead. Hawthorn beat his mean, and made a perfect cross for Phillipe Konz to head home past Barton.

Up to this point, the Brothels had offered no attacking threat, but the goal seemed to wake up their players, as they seemingly remembered their perilous position in the league table, or simply that they were there to play football, and one minute later they should have halved the deficit. Buenk failed to capitalise on O'Reilly fluffing his tackle, and he sent his shot wide when under little pressure. Paul and Foster also missed chances for the visitors, and they proved to be costly, as the Whizzers scored their 3rd moments later, in the simplest of buildups.

Whizzer found Fribo with a goalkick, who controlled the ball instantly, and beared down on the Cornfield Rovers goal. With the visitors defence backing off him, the Wonderboys packed him tried his luck, and smashed the ball home for the Wonderboys 3rd of the night.

Billy Whizz could barely have believed what he was seeing. Before Wednesday, his team had scored just 5 goals in 6 games, yet after just 33 minutes, they were 3 goals to the good. The only bad note to an otherwise perfect half of football was O'Reilly's second yellow card, for a silly challenge on Thorp, prompting Whizz to bolster the defence by bringing on Alan Thorpe in place of Hawthorn.

Whizz will no doubt have urged caution in the 2nd half to his team, and will perhaps have warned to concentrate, and avoid giving the visitors a flicker of hope by conceding an early goal. Either he didn't say that, or his team didn't listen, as just 2 minutes after the restart Foster smashed home from 25 yards, and the hosts were teetering for the first time in the match. Thorp and Gagarin both missed chances for Cornfield, and a second goal looked like coming, however the Wonderboys rallied, and forced some pressure themselves, albeit to no avail. Fribo and Avery both forced saves from Barton, but as the game entered the last 20 minutes it was pretty clear what the Wonderboy's task was - to defend their 2 goal advantage a man down.

The game thus slowed down a little, but was blown wide open again when Gagarin rose above Mandirah to reduce the hosts lead to just one, and nobody was leaving early here. The Wonderboys defended resolutely until the 90th minute, when Phil Jones missed an interception, giving Foster time to fire a fierce shot, only to see a magnificent reflex save from Whizzer deny his team an equaliser.

Whizz's Verdict

I was delighted with the first half, and I thought we defended well on the whole in the second half, bearing in mind we were a man down as well. I'm pleased we put up a good show for the fans, and maybe if we didn't go down to 10, we could have hit 4 or 5, but the win puts us in a good position that we can build from. With one or two players returning shortly, we need to use this momentum to push us into the promotion places, which is a difficult task, but I have confidence in the players.

Thrilling victory boosts Wonderboys

Wonderboys come from behind to claim 3 points, despite injuries

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys secured their 2nd win of the season, away to early leaders nottingham forest fc.

Going into the match without right back Floyd Rooney, and leading striker Luke Groves, the Whizzers weren't fancied by many, and when the form of the two sides were compared, the hosts looked to be the only winners.

After a tense opening half an hour, the hosts took the lead from a corner kick. Novacic headed home Stewarts outswinging delivery, and making the most of O'Reilly's air-kick. The Whizzers responded strongly, but seemed unable to get past forest's keeper Hari, largely due to wasteful shooting. It was possibly because of this, that when Inchingolo had the ball 30 yards out, rather than pass the ball to the onrunning Mick Richards, he decided to try on his own, and he couldn't have done it much better. The ball flew into the top corner, causing delirium in the stand occupied by the away fans. Just 60 seconds later, Morten Fribo teed up young striker Thomas Avery, who fired home from just outside the box. It was the youngsters first league goal of the season, and followed a goal on Thursday night in the friendly against Speedy Petes. Billy Whizz could hardly believe it, as his team had turned the match on its head, with 2 goals in two minutes.

In the second half, the Wonderboys managed to limit the host's chances, despite having an astonishing 3 injuries. First, on 48 minutes, Phil Jones had to replace Inchingolo, then 2 minutes later Maurice Meredith had to be replaced by James Cort, and then with just 15 minutes remaining youngster Chris Hewitt made his debut, as he came on for the injured Mick Richards. As the game entered stoppage times, Wonderboys' nerves meant Whizzer was called upon for the first time in the match, when he stopped a Stewart header with a fine save. A 93rd minute Forest corner was safely negotiated, and the final whistle one minute later confirmed the Whizzers' first away win of the season.

Whizz pleased with Wonderboys defence

"Best we've ever had" says Whizz

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys played out an exciting 0-0 draw against early front runners Arsene-all last night at Shitters Palace, meaning the Wonderboys have conceded just 3 goals in their opening 4 games.

Both managers admitted after the match that a draw was the fair result, with Billy Whizz claiming his defence will be the backbone to any promotion challenge launch by the Wonderboys:

"Unusually for us, we've kept things solid at the back this year, and I believe it's certainly the best backline we've ever had at the club. Conceding less than a goal is a magnificent effort for any club, particularly us, when you look at our goals against columns over the past few seasons. If we can keep that up, we have every chance of promotion."

For every stat, there is a counter-stat however, and in this case it's that the goals scored is also just 3, and after an injury to Luke Grove, there are serious questions whether the Wonderboys will be able to improve this aspect of their game. Whizz admitted that the club's forwards haven't been their best, but is not worried:

"We've been getting shots in, but they've not been hitting the net. We'll have a look at how we're doing things, and see if we can sort that out. Luke will miss 4 league games, so Avery will come in and have another chance to prove himself, but Luke is our talisman and we'll miss him for score. All the team will have to take more responsibility to increase our goals scored - from getting higher quality crosses into the box, to making sure that if you're going to shoot, it's on target, and it's going to make the keeper work, and preferably of course going in. It's not something to blame the forwards for 100%, as a team we have to be better in the final third of the pitch"

Floyd Rooney was also injured, and will not be fit until next Wednesday. David Thorpe could play at right back, or youth player Lewis Moody, a natural right back, could slot in.

The Wonderboys face Speedy Pete FC tonight, before visiting league leaders nottingham forest fc on Friday.

'Bin Whizzer' brings defensive stability

Matthews sale funds Malaysian star

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys new signing 'Bin Whizzer' was presented to the media for the first time today, after joining the Whizzers over the weekend.

Following the sale of Robert Matthews on Friday night, the Wonderboys moved swiftly to bring in a replacement, and bin Whizzer was brought in for 40m. The 34 year old made his debut on Sunday night, in the 1-1 draw against funnytown fc.

"I'm delighted to come to England, and play for a respected club such as the Wonderboys" said bin Whizzer. "This is clearly a great place to play football, and I am hoping we can make a challenge for promotion this year - the club have invested in some good signings, and confidence seems high"

Billy Whizz identified the defence as his team's weakest area at the end of last season, so focussed on strengthening that part of the team for this season. Goalkeeper Jack Leese, DML Peter O'Reilly, and now bin Whizzer have been added to the squad, while Shehata and Matthews have left the club, meaning that 3 of the back 4 against funnytown fc were new signings.

"I think it shows our ambitions for this season" said Whizz. "We could have brought a 21 year old for the same money, who has potential, but we're wanting to have a go at promotion this season, and spending 40m on a 34 year old shows how much we are going for it. This is likely to signal the end of our spending this season, and we are confident with the team we have got"
