Wonderboys secure vital victory

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys earned a vital win last night at Shitters Palace, as they beat Romans of Southwick 2-0, and moved out of the relegation places.

In a closely fought encounter, where both sides struggled to turn their large spells of possession into clear cut chances, it was the Whizzers who came out on top, with goals from Morten Fribo and Mikhail Kohklov.

The game started brightly for the hosts, as Mollet skipped past his man, and found Luke Grove in the box, but he failed to capitalise on a free header, and nodded the ball wide. Wielgas, in for the injured Tessadri, shot straight at Rodriguez from a long distance effort, while Mollet, replacing Fribo on set piece duties, drove wide from a free kick.

At half time, the visitors had yet to have a shot, and the Wonderboys had been only a little less wasteful in possession, and the game had a distinct feel of two teams short of confidence and quality.

The second period began with two bookings; one for Seymour as Mollet charged past him, and another for Hawthorn, which rules him out of tonights cup game against Harwood Villa.

The deadlock was finally broken on 65 minutes, as Kohklov found a yard of space to time his through ball to Morten Fribo, who finished with aplomb. The goal came just as the visitors had begun to threaten the Whizzers goal, but Romans refused to lie down, and it took two expertly times tackles from Bin Whizzer to stop the lively Rose going through one on one with Leese.

Robertson and Mollet missed opportunities to further extend the Wonderboys lead, before Rose curled wide from 25 yards on 87 minutes.

The game finished though with some nice work by Rooney, as he expertly found Kohklov, who finished with ease from close range. The goal was Kohklov's 8th of the season, and confirmed the victory that took the Whizzers up to 11th in the 4.4 table.
