Whizz happy with draw

Rivals fail to close gap after hardworking performance

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys yesterday managed to claim a point away against one of their promotion rivals, Man Utd SER, meaning the gap between the Whizzers and 3rd is 6 points, with 7 games to play.

The Whizzers made a strong start, but fell behind midway through the first half, and were forced to hold on for much of the game. However, a late rally resulted in Luke Groves heading home an equalizer, and earning a vital point for the Wonderboys.

"I think the most important thing from tonight was the fact we'v kept Man Utd 8 points behind us" said Whizz in his post match interview. "They've been in great form, and still have a great chance of finishing inside the top 2, and I'm pleased that gap is still there. With a loss, they would only be 5 points behind us, and momentum would have shifted. We're very much in control of our own destiny now"

The result means that the Whizzers good run of form continues, and Wonderboys fans can begin to count down the wins required to ensure promotion for their team. 5 wins will mean Arsene-all, in 3rd place, will need to win all their 7 games to finish on the same points as the Whizzers, and it is likely that 4 wins will be enough to move the Wonderboys up to Division 4.

"I'm sure people will get their calculators out, and predict where points will come from, but at the end of the day, if we win enough games, then we'll be there. On paper, our run in looks the most challenging, but we've beaten some good teams this year, and with promotion on the line, we should be able to step up a gear or two" said Whizz.

The Wonderboys also confirmed the signing of Rob Liddell last night. Liddell, 27, plays DML, but Whizz explained why he was brought to Shitters Palace, despite having O'Reilly and Hawthorn in that position:

"While it may look a strange signing, Liddell represents a bargain. He will be good cover over the next few games, particularly with O'Reilly injured, and should bring us a decent profit if we sell him on in a few weeks. It wasn't a necessity purchase, more that we should get a really good selling price for him."
