Wonderboys storm through to Round 6

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys ran out comfortable winners at Shitters Palace last night, hitting 4 past Spurs N son to record their biggest victory of the season.

The evening finished in comfortable fashion for the hosts, who are now just one win away from Round 7, where they will be joined by clubs in Division 3 and above, however in the opening exchanges, Spurs N son attacked with purpose.

King and Leach both drew smart saves from experienced keeper Leese, before a freekick was curled just over the bar by the dangerous looking Leach.

The Wonderboys then started to come into the game, with a succession of Mollet corners coming to nothing, before GYAN headed wide, after good work by Hawthorn on the left. The deadlock was soon broken however, with bin Whizzer finding himself unmarked to head home Mollet's inswinging corner.

The visitors nearly pegged back immediately, with Leach again getting the better of the Whizzers defence, before finding his strike partner Lacy, who should have done better with his free header.

The Wonderboys found another gear however, and Mollet blasted his freekick into the stand, as the visitors were suddenly hanging on. Bin Whizzer had another headed chance from a Mollet delivery, but this time powered the ball over the bar.

The second goal soon came though, and Mollet was involved again, as he picked up the ball from a Leese goalkick, and powered home from long range. That strike from the Frenchman visibly deflated the visitors, and the result seemed inevitable from then.

2 more set piece chances were spurned, and the half time whistle was only a temporary repriece for spurs.

Blanchard made his first save of the evening, as Tessadri chipped a delicate ball in the box, that Mollet could only head into the visitor's goalkeeper's gloves. Ristovski beat Tessadri in a rare attack for the visitors, yet Leese saved wonderfully from close range.

In the 73rd minute, the game was well and truly over, as Lacy pulled down Groves in the penalty area, who dusted himself off to blast the ball home from 12 yards, sending Blanchard the wrong way.

The rout was completed with 10 minutes to go, as Mollet found Hewitt unmarked in the middle, and he superbly chipped Blanchard to score his 2nd goal in 2 games. It was a special goal that ended a good evening for the Wonderboys, as their Cup march goes on. Details on the next round will be on the blog tomorrow.
