Konz leaves it late to give Wonderboys win

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys 1-0 Marineros Internacionales

Billy Whizz's Wonderboys had their fair share of luck in a victory tonight, in the first ever Division 4 match hosted at Shitters Palace, with Phillipe Konz scoring the game's only goal in the 91st minute.

The match had been fairly even until that point, with both midfields ensuring a scrappy game, with defences coming out on top. What efforts the Wonderboys did have were either from distance, or Morten Fribo freekicks, but all were off target until Rob Liddell fed through Konz in injury time to fire home from 18 yards. It means the Frenchman has scored 3 of the Wonderboys 4 goals so far this season.

"A draw was probably a fairer reflection on the game, but we'll take our bit of luck on this occasion" said manager Billy Whizz.

"I told the lads before the game that, unlike last season, it's points that matter more than performances. We're not going to dominate every game, but whether we're in the game or not, we need to take our chances, so we can snatch a point here and there were we perhaps don't deserve it. Maybe we've done that today, and the fans will go home happy with the late winner"

"There's one or two areas that can be improved, for sure, and against better teams we'll probably need to play a bit better than we did tonight, but at this stage we seem to be coping pretty well"

Midfielder Paul George made his debut, and Whizz stated he was hopeful of signing another right midfielder before Sunday's game:

"Paul did well, he's not really used to this level of football, but he put in a decent shift. We missed out on one lad by a matter of seconds this evening, but we've got our eye on someone else, so we think we should be OK for Sunday"

Peter O'Reilly left the club tonight, for a fee of just over 24.5m, a little under what the Whizzers paid last season for the Irish midfielder.
