Wonderboys miss out despite Avery sale

Danish striker was number one target

Senior executives left Shitters Palace last night disappointed and frustrated, after their main target slipped through the net.

Danish striker Rasmussen was sold for 97m, just outside the Wonderboys price bracket, and means that the Whizzers are likely to enter tonights game against Dynamo Doran without the striker or right midfielder Billy Whizz desired.

Funds were raised through the sales of Dwight Connolly and Thomas Avery, both for 25m, a sizeable return for the Whizzers two hottest assets.

"We're happy with the money we got" said one senior figure last night, "But we just missed out on a real good player. It's back to the drawing board now really, there's no other deals that are near finishing, so new signings before tonight is very unlikely"

"Billy was really disappointed, we'd been tracking Rasmussen for a long time, but we're not going to waste the clubs money. We'll be looking once again for a quality striker tomorrow, and we've put one or two feelers out tonight"

Chammy's Gyan is known to figure in Whizz's thoughts, but the transfer ends on Sunday, and an earlier transfer is thought to be preferred. Peter O'Reilly and Michael Hill could leave the club tonight, although no bids have yet been placed.
